Maritime Flags

saw this man while i was in the jeepney⠀
he was constantly shuffling a pile of cards⠀

with strange symbols⠀
during the photoespana portfolio review when eva mcgovern saw the photyyos of my exhibit in 98b mezzpezz⠀
she suggested that it might be nice if the arrangements of the photographs were a code for something⠀
so i started to think more about codes and their forms⠀
i remember how jett ilagan used morse codes for his work⠀
then it struck my the starnge fpile of cards in the man's hand in the jeepney⠀
those cards he was constantly shuffling about⠀
and the reason they have letters or numbers behind⠀
they were maritime flags⠀
so now im trying to incorporate them to my work⠀
and after seeing kristoffer ardena's show in 1335 mabini i thought that painting would be an appropriate medium for this idea

saw this man dressed in a seafarer in training uniforms shuffling a deck of cards with strange symbols in them and on the back were numbers or letters, later on i realized that those where maritime flags used by ships to signal/send messages to one another/ then i began to think about the current politics of the sea in the region with china using its influence and power to take hold of territories/
