Dreams, trances, altered states of consciousnes. No eyes, no ears, no nose, no tongue , no body, no mind, the buddhist would say. Elon Musk thinks we're all probably trapped in a "Matrix"-like pseudo existence. Rick and Morty suggests that we might be living in an artificial world created to power someone's vehicle.
Then why even bother? Does any of this really matter? Ain't all of this just a part of a big corporate/political/religious conspiracy to control us all. What is the sense of it all?
For this exhibition, Glenn Mendiola deals with the invitation of empty spaces to be filled up. Bene Arcayan sucks us in into an ocean of humanity overwhelmed by waves of realizations and compromise. Joseph Neri is transported back to the Philippines through the wisdom and warmth of Eve and Sam, a Filipino couple who's been in Berlin since the early 80s as caregivers. Mikki Luistro reflects on the act of resurfacing from under the magic of water. Richard Moratin notices how fiction casually mixes with our contemporary daily life. J Rex Chiu intoxicates us with images of confused trances. And finally Gerome Soriano piques our imagination with an antiquated technique in photography.
From our experiences,failings and mistakes we do know that some of it does. That even though it's slow sometimes. It will pick up soon or later and things will fall into place, makes sense and align.
